Q. WHAT WERE THE AIMS OF THE HUMAN GENOME PROJECT;
- To identify all the approx 20.000- 25,000 genes in human DNA, this includes mitochondrial DNA.
- To find where each gene is located
- To determine the sequences of the 3 billion chemical base pairs that make up Human DNA.
- To then store this information in a databse.
it allowed for the idebtification of new genes and known genes and the determination of their function,location and regulation.
After the human genome was complete It lead to the development of the human proteome project. finding the proteins coded by the genes. It is all the proteins produced by the genome in a given cell at a giben time under specific conditions.
