  • "You used the power you had, as the daughter of a good customer and also a man well-known in the town, to punish the girl just because she made you feel like that?"

  • "As soon as i mentioned the name Dasiy Renton, it was obviuos that you'd known her. You gave yourself away at once."
  • "And then you decided to keep her - as your mistress?"
  • "Your daughter isn't living on the moon. She's here in Brumley too."
  • "Apologise for what - doing my job?"
  • "I know why she needed help. But as i wasn't there,, i don't know what she asked from your commitee."

  • "A young unmarried girl is being dragged into this."
  • "But i think she only had herself to blame."
  • "I blame the young man who was the father of the child... if the girl's death is due to anybody, then it's due to him."
  • "You're quite wrong to suppose i shall regret what i did."
