Preventing Injuries

Warm up: increases blood flow to the muscles, stretches muscles and joints, increases core body temperature, prevents injury, helps imporve strength and speed of muscle contractions and concentrates the mind. Three main stages are gentle aerobic activity, stretch and flexability stage and skills session.

Cool-down: helps replace oxygen debt, gets rid of latic acid and other waste products and helps prevent injuries and soreness the following day. Includes a gentle jog and gentle stretching.

R: REST= stop immediately and rest the injury.

I: ICE= apply ice to the injury to make the blood vessels contract to reduce internal bleeding and swelling
