Types of Communicable Disease

Pathogens are micro-organisms that enter the body and cause diseases. These cause communicable diseases - these can be spread. Both plants and animals can be infected by pathogens.

1. Bacteria
These are very small which can reproduce rapidly. They can make you very ill by producing toxins that damage the cells and tissues.

2. Viruses
Viruses are not cells. They're tiny. They live inside the cells as they reproduce until there are too many of them which then causes the cell to burst, spreading the virus around the body.

3. Protists
These are Eukaryotes. Some carry parasites and can be transferred by a vector.

4. Fungi
Single-celled. Spread by spores.
