Managing ICT

ICT needs to be managed, how this happens depends on the scale of the organisation.

Large organisations: clearly defined roles for each staff, wont normally do anything outside of this role. Autocratic, hierarchical management structure.

Small: Flexibility, staff take on range of ict tasks if required. Democratic, informal management.

Strategy:Plan of action designed to achieve a particular goal. The organisations aim, and the overall direction in which the organisation should go.

CIO: Chief information officer: Operates at strategic level in charge of ICT resource. Job includes:

Responsible for technological direction of the organisation. Involved in strategic business plan, Makes decisions regarding staff training, purchase of hardware, software ICT services, knows about admin procedures, budgeting, recruiting.
