Passive transport

Diffusion- passive movement of particles from a region of higher concentration to a region of lower concentration, as a result of the random motion of particles.

Simple diffusion- through a partially permeable membrane

Facilitated diffusion- through channel proteins

Osmosis- the passive movement of water molecules from a region of lower solute concentration to a region of higher solute concentration, across a partially permeable membrane.

Active transport

Active transport- the movement of substances across a membrane using energy from ATP
