• There can be clues that an earthquake will happen eg. lots of little tremors, cracks appearing in rocks and strange animal behaviour
• Its possible to predict when an earthquake will happen due to data from past earthquakes eg. mapping where earthquakes have happen will help predic t wheat areas will be mostly affected.

Building techniques

• Building can be designed to withstand earthquakes eg. by using materials like reinforced concrete or building special foundations that absorb and earthquakes energy.
• Constructing earthquake proof buildings reduces the number of building destroyed by an earthquake, so fewer people will be killed, injured, made homeless, and made unemployed
