?

How did the disaster happen?

Two consecutive dry seasons which begun in 2010

 Caused wide spread drought

Complicated by war and restrictions of NGOs due to unstable governments and Somalian pirates

Horn of Africa disaster- killed

Ethiopia: 3.2 million

Kenya: 3.5 million

Somalia: 2.8 million

Djibouti: 100,000+

Rising food prices have now caused both physical and economic scarcity of food

Refugees

Worst impact in Somalia, this has caused mass movement of refugees

150,000 people flee the country every day

130,000 people are housed in six camps in ethiopia which is straining their already low resources

Refugee camps are overwhelmed which is causing conflicts

Conflicts could easily destabalise border nations and cause increased civil tensions, this will lead to countries becoming even less attractive to TNCs and FDI
