Homeostatis

These cards has to do with homeostatis.

?

What is homeostatis? Homeostatis is the maintenance of constant internal environment.

What are two factors that affect homeostatis? They are changes to the ebvironment & hydration levels.

What is hypothermia? Hypothermia is when the body becomes too cold and chemical reactions stop.

What is diffusion? Diffusion is the movement of substances from regions where the concentration is high, to regions where the concentration is low.

What is Osmosis? Osmosis is the diffusion of water from a dilute soloution to a more concentrated solution through partially permeable membrane (PPM).

What are Enzymes? Enzymes are organic catalyst. They are protein thagt speed up the rate of chemical reactions in living organism.

The lock&key module

Only a molecule with the cirrect shape can fit into an enzyme. This is a bit like aa key ( the molecule) fitting into a lock (the enzyme).

What is the active site? The place where the molecule fits.

What is heat stroke? Heat stoke is an uncontrolled increase in body temperature- The body cannot loose heat fast enough.

Some symptoms of heatstoke : Confusion, Red/ Dry skin, fainting etc

Treatments for heatstoke : Remove clothes & bathe in cool water, cool body using wet towels, use a fan etc.

What is Vosodilation & Vasoconstriction ?  Vasodilation is the windening & the vasoconstriction is the narrowing, of the blood vessels.

What is the hypothalmus? The hypothalmus is the center of the brain where blood temperature is monitored.

What is Hypothermia?  Hypothermia occurs when the body is exposed to low temperatures for a long period of time .
