Died 1500

Highly able Churchman and Lawyer

began his career as a pasionate Lancastrian

Made his peace with the Yorkists to serve under Edward IV - Became Bishop of Ely

Worked against Richard III

Promoted for his services by Henry to Archbishop of Canterbury - 1486

Became a Cardinal in 1493

Died 1503

Faithful servant of Henry Tudor

Raised funds before the battle of Bosworth

influence exercised though his role as - Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster

Led the Council Learned in Law

Described as " Kings Chief executive"

"More powerful than most nobles"

Margaret Beaufort

1443 - 1509

Married Edmund Tudor - 1455

Gave Birth to Henry aged 14

3rd husband - Thomas Lord Stanley

important unofficial adviser of the King

Granted a large landed estate by Hen  at Collyweston in Northamptonshire

Retained political influence throughout her son's reign

Spent most time looking after her lavish household

Sir Richard Empson

1450 - 1510

Member of the Kings council from 1494

Eventually chaired the Council Learned

identified with the increasing ruthlessness of Henry's reign

arrested shortly after the death of the king

Charged with Treason and executed the following year

Edmund Dudley

1462 - 1510

Came to prominence following the death of Bray

(Steven Gunn) - " His role was to exploit financial oppurtunities wehich gave him ample oppurtunity to make influential enemies

Became vunerable to counter attack as soon as he lost the king's protection.

Upon Henry Tudors death he became accountable for what had been the king's demand
