Flexibility

Flexibility 

  • Ability of the joint to move through its full range                               
  • Controlled use of the full range of movement around a joint can allow execution of the correct technique and improving performance 
  • Used by a gymnast when doing the splits because they need to be able to stretch out there legs either side

Muscular Endurance

Muscular Endurance 

  • The muscles ability to work over a long period of time without getting tiered 
  • To develope this component of fitness you should carry out light/moderate training over long periods of time 
  • Used by a long distance runner e.g10,000m because they have to run continously for a very long time and don't want there muscles to get tiered quickly

Muscular Strength 

  • The muscles ability to apply force and overcome resistance 
  • Combines with speed to create power
  • Can be measured by the ability to lift maximum weight possible 
  • Can be used to overpower opponent 
  • Used when boxing to punch or used by weight lifters since they are required to lift heavy weights

Cardiovascular Endurance

Cardiovascular Endurance 

  • The ability to exercise the entire body for long periods of time without tiering 
  • Cardiovascular System supplys the body with oxygen to produce energy for exercise, the better the cardiovascular fitness the better the oxygen supply will be
  • Essential for long distance runner, triathalon, Tor de France because they are having to work the whole body for long periods of time

Body Composition 

  • The percnetage of body weight which is fat, bone and muscle 
  • There is an important body shape for each activity 
  • For example a basketball player would have a lower percentage of fat than a sumo wrestler would have
