Primary Haloalkanes
The carbon to which the halogen atom is only attached to one other carbon atom (or alkyl group).
Secondary Haloakanes
The carbon atom to which the halogen atom is attached to two other carbon atoms, so forms two C-C (single) bonds.
Tertiary Haloalkanes
The carbon atom to which the halogen atom is attached to three other carbon atoms, so forms three C-C (single) bonds.
