Government under Cromwell - 1533-1540

ELTON THESIS - A REVOLUTION IN GOVERNMENT - MEDIEVAL TO MODERN

BUREAUCRACY - capable people who worked under rules and procedures

Different departments dealt with their specifics only. No individual dominance. 

  • FINANCE - Departments received money from pre-specified sources ...COURT OF FIRST FRUITS AND TENTHS  and  COURT OF AUGEMENTATIONS - dealt with the money from the dissolution of the monastries.
  • PRIVY COUNCIL - 20 men who were specifically chosen to have responsibility for the day-to-day running of government - no individual could dominate.
