German Perfect Tense

• take the --en off the end of the infintive to form the 'stem'.
• add a ge- to the beginning, and a -t to the end

e.g. spielen - gespielt

       machen - gemacht

• I need to learn the participle off by heart.
• participles of strong verbs tend to end in -en rather that -t, and involve a vowel change in the stem.

e.g. gewinnen - gewonnen

       stehen - gestanden

Seperable verbs such as fernsehen, the second part (sehen) will usually follow the same vowel pattern as that verb on its own. I simply need to 'glue' the prefic to the verb by putting a 'ge' in the middle:

fernsehen - ich habe ferngesehen

ankommen - wir sind angekommen

weggehen - sie ist weggegangen 

fotografieren, reparieren, studieren, probieren etc. do not add ge- to their past participles : 

• er har fotografiert
