Geography paper 3 coast fieldwork

?

advantages of using a systematic sample

it allows us to see the continuous change from the beach angle from the distance of the cliff.

1 of 9

disadvantage of using a systematic sample

we could have missed a key site which would make our results inaccurate

2 of 9

how could secondary data support our results

it showed us the  rock type of the cliff face so we could determine if mass movement was occuring and therefore if any beach defences were needed.

reasons for data presentation technique

a line graph with a line of best fit is a very visual way to accurately see the change in beach angle from the cliff.

4 of 9

evaluation of our primary data

Measuring sediment size weakness: It was difficult to get the tape measure perfectly straight over the 27 meter distance due to the wind. This made our results less accurate.

evaluation of our primary data

Measuring angle weakness :When using the clinometer to measure beach angle - we only used the clinometer once so it could have been used incorrectly because the clinometer was not correctly aimed.

evaluation of our primary data

Measuring angle strength: Beach angle was recorded three times along the transect and the mean result was calculated - made our results more reliable.

advantages of using two ways to analyse data

  • the mean angle was calculated three different times the beach was measured along the transect

advantages of using two ways to analyse data

  • once the mean was calculated the beach angle was plotted on a scatter graph and a line of best fit was drawn.
