water shed - the boundary of a drainage basin separating one drainage basin from another 

confluence - a point where two streams or rivers meet ]

drainage basin - area of land drained by a river 

discharge - the volume and speed at which water flows through the river channel 

weathering - the breakdown and decay of rock by natural processes, usually acting on the river       valley sides

transportation - where a river picks up and carries material as it flows downstream

mass movement - where individual particles of soil move slowly down a slope from the force of gravity 

slump - where material moves rapidly downslope in one go, for example, in a landslide. In a slump material often rotates as it moves 

traction - rolling stones along the bed 

suspension - slit and clay-sized particles are carried within the water flow

abrasion - where pebbles rub along the river bank like sand paper

attrition - when pebbles clash together making them rounder and smoother 

tributary - where the stream joins the river

velocity - how fast the river flows
