human rights

All human life is sacred, in genesis it says that man was made in the image of god. Jesus told a story to show what this means:

"as a shepherd sorts the sheep from the goats"

he tells ones on his right that they have been rewarded

"when i was hungry you fed me, when i was thirsty you gave me a drink, naked you clothed me, in prison you visited me...".

The people were confused as jesus was never in prison, God says

"whatever you do for the least of my brothers, you are doing it for me"

"do unto others as you would have them do unto you"

"love your neighbour as you love yourself"

in the old testament, Isaiah criticises the people for being very religious on the outside and at the same time, exploiting poor people for money. God says through Isaiah

"This is the kind of pasting i have chosen...to loose the chains of injustice".

Christians and the environment

Christians believe that God created the Universe and that in the beginning

"god saw all that he had made and it was good"

throughout the bible, people celebrate the wonder and beauty of God's creation

"the heavens declare the glory of the lord, the skies proclaim the work of this hands" (David, psalms)

sanctity of life, suicide

"mankind was made in the image of God" Genesis

David, psalms "you knew me before I was born. all the days allotted to me were written in your book before any of them ever began"

Babies fulfilling their purpose within the stories from the bible - eg, Isaac becoming the father of the Jewish race, or Moses was rescued from the bulrushes to lead the children of Israel out of slavery in Egypt.

in the new testament Paul describes our bodies as

"temples for the holy spirit"

Marriage, Divorce and caring for relatives

the bible says that marriage is when "two become one flesh"

Christians promise, "to have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, 'til death do us part"

in Corinthians, there is a passage describing agape, it says

"love is patient, love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or rude. it does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful"

Jesus says "let the one who is without sin cast the first stone".

"forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us"

"honour your father and mother"

"fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged"

saint paul says, "wives submit to your husbands"

"love honour and obey"

the bible says "i am the resurrection and the life; he that believeth in me though he were dead, yet shall he live"
