Definitions

Serialism – Music based on the 12 notes in a chromatic scale

Tone row/Note row – 12 notes of the chromatic being played

Prime order – The original 12 note row before it is changed

Inversion – Turning a melody upside down

Retrograde – Melody played backwards

Retrograde inversion – Melody played backwards and upside down

Augmentation – Increasing the note lengths in a melody

Diminution – Opposite of augmentation
