Multiplying Fractions

Multiplying -

Times the bottom numbers together

Times the top numbers together

For example:

2/3 x 4/10 =

2 x 4 = 8     3 x 10 = 30

8/30 = 4/15

Multiplying Mixed Fractions

  • Times the whole number and the bottom number
  • Add this answer to the top number
  • Then do this for the other fraction.
  • The answer you get becomes the top number the bottom number stays the same.
  • Then it is basic multiplying fractions.
  • For example:
  • 21/2 x 31/4 = 2 x 2 + 1= 5
  •  3 x 4 + 1 = 13
  •  5/2 x 13/4 = 5 x 13 = 65 
  • 2 x 4 = 8
  • 65/8
