These would have helped build up a picture of the murderer however these pictures were very stereotypical as they depicted men with very prominent Jewish features.

Interviews

The police interviewed many different people to try and work out who the murderer was and whilst some off the public were informative, so would try to drop those that they didn't like in it. As the publics information sometimes didn't add up the police would dismiss it.

Careful observation.

The police would try to keep a close eye on the comings and goings in Whitechapel. They would also look closely at the crime scene to try and decide how the victim died and at what time and what type of person did it.

Autopsy

The body would be cut open to try and work out what weapon was used and when the victim died as well as how they were approached and perhaps what angle the weapon entered.

Identifying suspects

This would help the police as the more suspects they interviewed the bigger the picture of information they could build up as they would be able to find out more details about the murderer.

Effectivness

The techniques were not very effective as the murderer still managed to get away from being captured and caught.
