What is fatigue?

  • the feeling of extreme physical or mental tiredness brought on by extreme exertion.

What can a performer suffering from fatigue suffer

  • they are unable to carry on with activity
  • they concentration levels will decrease
  • their skill levels will decrease as both speed and strength are lost
  • extreme fatigue can be dangerous
  • any performer suffering from it needs to stop and rest in order to recover

What is stress?

  • the body's reaction to a demand which requires a physical, mental or emotional adjustment or response; a demand that is excessive in some way- more than the body or mind can easily cope with.

How does pressure build up on a performer?

  • common if there is an audience
  • come from expectations of teamates or playing partners
  • the level of competetition
  • quality of the opposition

How do personalities and emotions vary between ind

  • causes a variety of different reactions
  • introvert personalities are quite shy and reserved, which makes them less outgoing and sociable. 
  • can make them likely to participate in non-team sports
  • extroverts, are often quite assertive, enjoy company of others and seek out excitement
  • this makes them more likely to participate in team games

What does high levels of excitement do?

  • bring out high levels of tension
  • not always a negative factor
  • many performers feel that high levels of tension bring out the best in them.

What can anxiety do to performance?

  • makes a performer feel uneasy and apprehensive both before and during a performance
  • a certain level of anxiety can be good as it helps the performer prepare
  • if they become over-anxious, it will have a negative effect.

How can high levels of aggression affect performan

  • as long as agression is controlled (eg rugby or boxing) then it can be positive
  • if its not controlled it can lead to a potentially dangerous situation for both the performers and other performers/ opposition

  • can decrease if stress and anxiety
  • could have a negativ effect

  • they increase under stress
  • usually results in the performance improving alertness and focus

  • perforing can become tedious
  • this seriously affects their performance levels
