Fat is essential for a balanced diet
- The term 'fat' covers both FATS and OILS.
- Fats and ois are essentially the same, but fats tend to be solid at room temperature whereas oils are liquids.
- Fats and oils can VISIBLE in some foods such as fat on meat or a layer of butter on bread.
- Some fats and are INVISIBLE and can't be seen easily. In milk, egg yolk, mayonaise and gravy, the fat is an emulsion throught the food making it difficult to see. In good products, invisible fat is found in crisps, cakes and biscuits.
