Introduction

Family- a close group people, usually related not always who support each other and at some point in their lives thend to live in the same household

Household- a person living alone or a group of people living together who may not may not be related. E.g. a group of university students living together are not a family

Nuclear family- a family consisting of two parents and their dependent children

Extended family- a family of three generations living together

Other types of families:

Singletons

Living apart togethers- e.g. 'dating'

Living together aparts- e.g. 'work collegues living together'

Reconstituated families- e.g. 'a man with children marrying a divorced woman with children'

Childless couple families- e.g. a woman may not want children to persue her career

Go it alone mothers
