Adaptation within a human body:

During Exercise:

Muscle cells use glucose rapidly.

Heart, lungs and blood can't meet the extra demand for Oxygen

Aerobic respiration can't happen(there is not enough supply of raw materials: glucose

and oxygen)

THE BODY HAS TO ADAPT AND COMPENSATE

Anaerobic respiration takes place to keep the muscles contracting for a little longer.

ADVANTAGE

Muscles work without the need of Oxygen

Disadvantages

1) Lactic acid is produced, if it builds up in the muscles it can cause pain: ie it stresses the muscles.

2) It doesn't produce as much glucose as aerobic respiration ( with oxygen)

After EXERCISE

Advantages

A person's metabolic rate increases ie the rate at which different processes occur

The supply of blood to all parts of the body is bigger

Disadvantages

Oxygen Debt occurs because the heart, lungs and blood couldn't keep up with the demand for Oxygen earlier on.
