4 & 12 Mark Questions

the 4 mark question

Spend 5 mins on this question, within this question you will have to make and explain two features on a given topic. For example:

'Describe two features of Anglo-Saxon towns in England.'

the 12 mark question

Spend 20 mins on this question. In this question you will have to use 3 PEE paragraphs to explain why something happened. first do an intro saying all of the reasons very briefly and then go into the three paragraphs. The question will give you two points to make but you must come up with another in order to get good marks. Also use the language of the question in every paragraph. and example of a question is:

'Explain why William won the Battle of Hastings' you may use the following in your answer

  • knights 
  • tactics

16 Mark Question

Spend 30 mins on this question. 

The exam will give you a choice of two 16 mark questions, only do one

Before you attempt the question, make sure you plan it out but don't spend too long on this.

In this question you should try to write 5 paragraphs, 2 points for, 2 points against and finally a conclusion which gives your opinion and justification for it.

Use the language of the question in every paragraph.

an example of one of these questions is:

'It was the changes in landholding that did the most to secure Norman control of England.'

How far do you agree? Explain your answer.

  • tennants in chief
  • forfeiture
