The Warsaw Uprising and the take of Czechoslovakia

Before the Soviet Union could properly take over Czechoslovakia, they would theoretically have to take over Poland first. In 1944, Poles held an uprising against Germany occupation known as the Warsaw Uprising. The Soviet Union promised to help them but instead of helping they waited until the uprising was crushed to take over.

This enabled them to push forward and take Czechoslovakia. In 1948 the Soviet Union staged a coup and all non-communists were removed from power. Stalin put a communist government in place.
