The Song of the Old Mother

Rhyming Couplets - makes poem sound repetitive like the mothers work
                                 - makes poem sound like a song, ties in with title

Contrast - differences between mother and child as she lists ther activities and                     thoughts

Sympathy
- poet feels sorry for the mother
Drudgery - poet feels as the mothers life will always be like this 

'lie long and dream in their bed' - makes me feel sympathy to the mother. The phrase highlights the differences between the lives of the young people and the old womans life. 

Compare to 'Before you were mine' - uses first person
                    'Homecoming' - imagery
