• Father like figure
• Keeps Lennie out of trouble 
• Lennie relies on George for everything (food/water/work)
• Geoge hasn't always been good to him
• Even killing Lennie

- GEORGE HAS NO PROBLEMS WHEN HE'S ON HIS OWN 

• Reasonably smart (clever at finding work)
• Often says he'd be better off alone
• 'if i was alone i could live so easy'
• But Lennie offers him companionship

GEORGE IS A REALISTIC CHARACTER

• Happy from simple things in life (e.g. free from work)
• You also feel sympathy for george (calls Lennie a 'poor *******' even when he's about to be told off- tells Lennie off for his own good

• Like an animal: 'Lennie covered his face with his huge paws and bleated with terror'
• Innocent: 'ain't mean'
• Slow: 'dum-dum', 'cuckoo'
• Likes to 'pet' soft things

- HE IDENTIFIES WITH ANIMALS:

• Bear: he drags his feet 'the way a bear drags his paws'
• Dog: he brings George the mouse 'like a terrier who doesn't want to bring a ball to it's master'
• Very possessive over his animals
