fossil fuels

Fossil fuels are used in everyday life and research has shown that 80% of the world's electricity is generated by fossil fuels- coal, natural gas and oil. These have been used for hundreds of years however they are having a huge part in global warming(revision card five) and may soon run out, too. When these fuels are burnt, they release a gas called carbon dioxide (CO2)which is the gas that impacts the rise of the Earth's temperature. Carbon dioxide can also be released when the power plants that burn these fuels are built as they are made with concrete.

fossil fuels- coal

Coal is formed over millions of years when dead animals and plants are compressed due to the pressure of earth builing up on top of them over the years. Years later, it is  dug up out of the ground in the form of coal and burnt to produce electricity.
