DVD-RAM technology shows good data integrity, data retention and damage protection through a number of mechanisms and properties. The on-disc structure stores data in concentic tracks and can be accessed usually without any specific software.
The advantages of DVD-RAM are that it has a long life without physical damage and has very fast access of small files on the disc. It also has a reliable writing of discs where verification is done in the hardware by the drive.
The disadvantages are that it has media unavailability and has less compatibility than DVD+RW and DVD-RW. It also has a high media cost.
