Dr.Jekyll

1- He appears to be a good and respectable man.

2-He is known for his charity work and reads religious texts.

3-He socializes in upper-class circles and holds dinner parties.

4-He is sociable and friendly.

5-Jekyll behaves in a socially acceptable way.

6-Although he puts on a brave face in public he worries about hidden desires.

7-He hides his desires.

8-This is why splitting himself appeals to him.

Stevenson's message is that reputations can not be trusted because they are based on appearances.

Before Hyde, Jekyll feels he is leading a double life.

'distinguish for religion' - Jekyll is known for good deeds.

'temptation of a discovery so singular and profound/' - this motivates Jekyll to create hyde.

revolves around an alter ego.

'many ill things.' - Utterson's past.

locked doors are a symbol of secrecy. 'neither bell nor knocker.'
