Disaccharides

  • Two single sugar units joined together in a condensation reaction.
  • Bond between then known as glycosidic bond.

Sucrose

  • Glucose + Fructose
  • Usual form in which sugar is transported around the plant.
  • Soluble

Maltose

  • Glucose + Glucose
  • This is produced when amylase breaks down starch.
  • Found in germinating seeds as they break down their starch stores to use for food.
  • Soluble.

Lactose

  •  Galactose + Glucose
  • Sugar found in milk.
  • Soluble.
