Diffusion

HideShow resource information

Diffusion

Diffusion: movement of a substance by random motion from a region of high concentration to region of low concentration

Concentration:a measure of how much solute is dissolved in a solvent the difference in concentration is concentration gradient

Diffusion in gases: the concentration is higher nearer the source but gas particals move fast so the diffuse quickly

Diffusion in liquids: particals move more slowly meaning the they diffuse slower until the concentration is equal

Diffusion through a partially permiable membrane eg cell membrane: allows some particals to diffuse through but not all. carbon dioxide, water, glucose and oxygen can all pass through large substances can't
