The Early Periodic Table

John Dalton

  • Published table of elements in 1808
  • Arranged elemnts in order of mass

John Newlands

  • The properties of every eighth element were similar
  • Used the law of octaves as a guide (eight notes)
  • He filled the table regardless of whether the elements were similar or not

Alexandre Emille Begure

  • Similarites between every eighth element
  • Used clear diagrams to demonstrate this

Dmitri Mendeleev

  • Arranged so physical and chemival properties could be seen
