Lighting Techniques and Definiton

  • Profile Spotlight- Produces a hard edge of static light

  • Fresnel Spotlight- Produces a soft light. Textured surface of the lens diffuses the light

  • Follow Spotlight- Manned. Powerful, creates a hard edge of light

  • Flood- Produces a wash of soft light

  • Birdie- Small light attached to scenery. Similar to profile spotlight

  • Par Can- Stamdard static light

  • Barn Doors- Used to shape light

  • Gel- Colours the light. Warmer than LED's

  • Gobo- Acts as a stencil

  • 3-Point Lighting- Key light, Fill light, Backlight

Sound

  • Digetic- Natural sound that is expected in a situation
  • Non- Digetic- Sounds added in for effect

Costume

  • Colour- used for symbolism
  • Pattern- suggestion of wealth
  • Condition- conveys the circumstance of the character
  • Style- General shape of the garment
  • Cut- How it's constructed
  • Fit- How the garment is placed on the actor
  • Fabric- Material used
  • Texture- Rough, smooth, etc
