Objective: pre-decided rules e.g the bible 

Instrumental: right or wrong depending on end result 

Relative: flexiable, changeable rules

Subjective: rules decided by you

fits the changing moral zeigtiest 

Creates A Universal Standard = relativsm allowed hitler to follow his own moral code which allowed him to kill 6 million people 

Ensures Equality= what is moral for one is moral for another                                                                                                                                                                  

Order = without an absoloute standard we have no reason to act morally leads to social corruption                                                                                                                                        

• Modern  -multi cultural and multi belief up to date with issues such as homosexuality and abortion                                                                                                                                               
• Accepting= promotes tolerance accepts different practices and allows independent thought                                                                                                                                   

• Thompson - it is good to get beneath the cultural diversity and touch some aboloute moral standards 
• Pope John Paul 2- today's ethicak relativism leads to modes of behaviour which destroy the dignity of the person

• Vardy- absoloutism enshrines the idea of equakity regardless of class,colour, race, sex, age or circumstance 
• Dostoyvesky- without an aboloute standard everything would be morally permissable 

• Anscombe- good persons do good deeds but good deeds do not nesessarily make good person
• Grayling- religion is precisley the wrong way to go in the modern world
