eg. Referendum on Devolution in the UK.
An individual or intuition forcing people to act a certain way
The state has coercive power; force such as terror, prison, execution as sanctions.
Influence as power; weakest form, no force. The Media.
The right to exercise power
Elective authority - Parliament.
Traditional authority - Monarchies. Lasted over many generations.
Charismatic authority - when a personality has the ability to command a following .eg. Margaret Thatcher, Tony Blair.
