BiologyDNA and inheritanceGCSEAQA Created by: emzabCreated on: 24-01-15 18:38 Cystic Fibrosis You cannot catch or develope CF you're either born with it, born a carrier or born without it It is caused by a recessive allele It is a Genetic disorder of the cell membranes Results in the body producing a lot of sticky mucus in the air passages and in the pancreas The CF allele is carried by about 1 in 25 people people with only 1 copy of the allele are called carriers because they don't have the disorder for a child to have the disorder both parents must either be sufferers or carriers if both parents are carriers ther is a 1 in 4 chance of their child having CF a combination of physiotherapy and medication can help stop mucus building up in the lungs Thick mucus can block the ducts in the pancreas reducing the amounts of insulin produced CF can lead to malnutrition, delayed puberty and sometimes diabetes There is currently no cure for CF but there is lots of research into it 1 of 1
