What is it?

  • Caused by a faulty recessive gene.
  • Both parents must be carriers for their child to develop CF.
  • When both parents are carriers, there is a 25% chance that their child will have CF.

Symptoms

  • Thick sticky mucus in the lungs. 
  • Problems absorbing nourishment from food. 
  • Respiratory problems. 
  • Chest infections.

Treatment

  • Physiotherapy for mucus.
  • Special diet.
  • Drugs for food absorption and infections.
