The COPE Scale

The COPE scale was developed by Carver et  (1989) it is a widely used research questionnaire on coping styles. To remember the main ones:

Mnemonic - Scale - Description

Always --------- Active Coping-------------------------------Taking direct action.

Invite ------------ Seeking Instrumental Support--------Talking to others, getting advice.

Elephants ----- Seeking Emotional Support-----------Discussing feelings.

For --------------- Focus on Venting of Emotions ------Becoming upset and expressing.

Dinner ----------- Denial ----------------------------------------Refusing to believe something.

Huzzah --------- Humour --------------------------------------Laughing about a situation.
