Convection

Convection

-Convection happens when we heat fluids (liquid or gas)

-The circualtion currents are caused because fluids rise when heated (become less dense). They then fall when cool (become more dense), creating convection currents which transfer energy from the hotter parts to the cooler parts.

-Most fluids expand when heated, because the particles move about more taking up more space

-Therfore the density decreases because the same mass of fluid now occupies a bigger volume.

-So heating part of a fluid makes that part less dense therefore it rises
