Colour & Visibility

You see luminous objects when light from them enters your eyes.

You see non-luminous objects because they reflect light.

Specular Reflection - When light is reflected off a smooth surface.

Diffuse Reflection - When light is scattered in different directions due to reflecting off a rough surface.

White Light - A mixture of different colours, which is seen as white.

White light can be split into the colours of the visible spectrum.

We see colour because the object reflects the colour of the object and absorbs the rest of the colours. E.g. A yellow object reflets yellow light but absorbs the rest of the colours.

Filter - A coloured, transparent material which absorbs some of the colours of white light and transmits the rest.
