Coding and encoding

Coding

• Data will be coded on collection so it can be entered easier
• It makes data shorter so it is quicker to input
• e.g. On a survey data entry may be a value between 1-5 instead of a description.

Encoding

• Converts data into machine readable form
• The data that we use must be encoded into binary
• Every letter is encoded into binary as this is all a computer understands
