  • These can be worked owned, like John Lewis/ Waitrose.
  • Can be customer owned, like the Co-op.

They have the potential to offer a more united cause for the workforce than the profit of sharehodlers . 

Workers at John Lewis get an annual bonus of 20% as their share of the companies profits.

The Co-op has been less successful, though its focus on ethical shopping had made it more relevant to today's shoppers.
