General Principles

1. The Right to Life

Abortion and Euthanasia

  • "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your body" 1 Corinthians 6:20
  • "You should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honourable," 1 Thessalonians 4:2-5

Sexuality

  • "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable" Leviticus 18:22

Drugs

  • "Dont destroy yourself by getting drunk, but let the Spirit fill your life." Ephesians 5:18
  • "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your body" 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
  • "Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him; for God's temple is sacred and you are that temple" 1 Corinthians 3:16-17
  • 'Avoid every kind of evil' 1 Thessalonians 5:22
  • (no prohibition on alcohol- Jesus turned water into wine & drank wine at the last supper. St Paul advises a friend "Stop drinking only water. Take a little wine to help your stomach trouble")

Marriage and Divorce

  • 'The LORD God said, "It is not good for man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him." [...] the LORD God made a woman from the rib he'd taken out of the man, and he brought her to man. Man said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 'woman', for she was taken out of man." For this reason man will leave his father and mother and and be united to his wife and they will become one flesh.' Genesis 2:18-2
  • "What God has joined together, let man not separate" Mark 10:9
  • "Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her. And if she divorces and marries another man, she commits adultery." Mark 10:12
  • "A man who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery- unless his wife has been unfaithful" Mathhew 19:9
  • 'Love is as strong as death' Song of Songs 8:6
  • "Each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband. The husband should fulfil his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife's body doesn't belong to her alone but also to her husband. In the same way, the husband's body doesn't belong to him alone but also his wife. 1 Corinthians 7:2-4
