Choosing at random probability

These are the type of people watching a film at a cinema:

  • Adult male: 21
  • Adult female: 14
  • Child male: 10
  • Child female: 5

Two of these people are chosen at random to recieve free cinema tickets, calculate the probability of the 2 chosen people being adults and the same gender.

Method

  • Add together 21, 14, 10 and 5, This gives 50.
  • ((21/50)*(20/49))+((14/50)*(13/49))
  • This gives 0.24571 or 43 over 175 (fraction)
