Bonding

Chemical bonding is when two or more elements/compounds combine to make a differnt element.

e.g. in this case the hydrogen (H) atoms have bonded with the carbon (C) atoms  (http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTmi8CSaFCn8h345CApz_tOSxxNkZMeb_vCAbxOIcsNaT1W0EDz)

Ionic bonding

  • The transfer of electrons between atoms
  • occurs between metals and non-metal
  • high boiling point
  • strong electrostatic forces of attraction between oppositly charges ions
  • giant ionic lattice (atoms are formed in layers)
  • are a solid at room temperature
