Chemistry C2 4.2 Collision Theory and Surface Area
Particles must collide, with a certain amount of energy, before they can react
The minimum amount of energy that particles must have in order to react is called the activation energy
The rate of a chemical energy increases if the surface area of any solid reactants is increased. This increases the frequency of collisions between reacting particles
Reactions can only take place when the particles (atoms, ions or molecules) of reactants come together. But the reacting particles don't just have to bump into each other. They also need enough energy to react when they collide. This is known as collision theory
