What is a mole?

RELATIVE ATOMOC MASS AND RELATIVE FORMULA MASS = mole

5 of 8

EXAMPLE!

The Mole = Relative atomic/formula mass

So 1 mole of carbon = 12 g

6 of 8

Percentage mass and empirical formula

MgO --> 24g (Mg)    16g (O)

16+24=40

16/40 = 0.4 x100 = 40% (of oxygen)

Therefore Magneisum is 60%

7 of 8

Percentage Mass (%) =

Mass of element (Ar) / Relative formula mass (Mr)
