Chemistry 13.1

History of the periodic table

?

Aristotle 330BC

In ancient Greece Aristotle proposed that there were four elements: air, fire, earth and water.

All of these elements could be reacted to create another one; e.g earth and fire combined to form lava.

This was dismissed when real chemical elements started to be discovered.

Scientists needed an easily accessible, well organised database where information about chemical elements could be recorded.
